Have you guys thought of the possiblity of getting buses (group travel) from some major cities?
For example - hiring a bus from NY City....
or a bus from Maryland...
once you get some feedback as to where people are coming from, this may be an economical way for people to go?
just curious...

This is a good idea, and if people want us to pursue it, we will.
We received feedback that people did not wish to spend more than 2 hours in a bus with their children to get to the camp. (That's approximately what it took last time.) While we wish to honor that request, it sounds like we should pursue a ground transportation option if it is warranted. What type of location do you suggest for pick up/drop off...an airport located in NYC or Newark, or some place different?
Within 90 minutes of the campsite are two airports: Albany, NY and Burlington, VT. The Burlington, Vermont Airport, while the same distance from the campsite as Albany, does not seem to offer flights as reasonable as those found in Albany. Because we will be able to staff only one airport to make sure everyone who reserved the bus is on the bus, etc..., we'll need to decide which airport would make the most sense for the majority of those who are traveling.
Maybe if everyone likes flying into JFK or Newark better than Albany, (price and convenience), we'd run the buses from either of those airports instead of Albany, NY or Burlington, VT. Please let us know your thoughts. Ultimately, we'll make a decision that we feel benefits the majority of people. My understanding is that the campsite is approximately 2 1/2 to 3 hours from NYC...Keep in mind that it's Labor Day Weekend, and so traffic in and out of the city ought to be tough, I would imagine.
Last time, we hired buses to transport people from the airport to the campsite and back. The bus company messed things up a bit with the first of three buses, (They'd sent a smaller bus than we'd requested.), but eventually, we got everyone to the camp by dinnertime, which was our goal! No one was worse for the wear, and the ride was so beautiful up the mountain, that they just sat back and enjoyed the ride.
So, what do you all think?
Thanks and keep those ideas coming.

well you know you brought up a good point! how long does one want to be on a bus with children....
I think that probably transportation from airports would be nice though.
I checked on airfare and from Pennsylvania it's not 'that' bad I guess...cheaper to go to Burlington than Albany though. And even cheaper if I go from a smaller airport. And the ride is only 1 hour! Ohyea. That sounds MUCH better than 10 hours in a car. I am NOT the car travelin' lady. Whew!
I first checked on train - figured that might be a nice alternative but it's only slightly less than air travel.
anyway - thanks for entertaining my question,
francine

Thanks for bringing it up!
Please know that we will arrange for bus transportation from an airport to the camp and back. It's still looking like it will be the Albany Airport at this point. Cathy

It is very important to remember that it is Labor Day weekend and a major traffic issue in and around the NY metro airports...
It is also the return to college weekend for many so again traffic issue in and around the city...
