Hi Everyone,

It's hard to believe that our first camp was held over one year ago! Where did the time go?

We're so pleased to announce Camp UBPN 2003. This will be UBPN's second camp for those who have brachial plexus injuries and their families and friends.

Please consider posting your camp comments and suggestions on this message board. As time goes on, we will be announcing more details, such as activities, guest speakers, and cost, to name a few.

For now, we thought you'd appreciate knowing what we know at this point! From what we know about Lake George, we can't beat the location! We hope you'll consider attending. Stay tuned....

Until later,
Cathy N. Kanter
Immediate Past President,
InterACTION Program Chair UBPN, Inc.

Hi Cathy,

We are hoping to go this year...

Can you post something about the activities planned... especially for younger kids. Maia will be 5 then, so what kind of things will she be able to do there?

And accomodations? Are there private accomodations?

Well just let us know what you guys have already in terms of info! I want it all!! LOL LOL

This will be my first camp experience with ubpn so I'm really excited about it. Heard so many great things about the last two.

Hi Francine,
We've not confirmed any activities yet...still too early! And, we want to hear from the bpi community as to what type of activities you would like to see: horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, climbing wall, fishing, quite time to visit with others, arts and crafts...other??? We'll try to offer choices, as we did last time, and fill requests on a first come, first serve basis. This seemed to work well last time.

This camp will offer different activity options to UBPN for consideration, and it's all going to be explored real soon by the InterACTION Volunteers. We'll keep you posted, but again, we'd love to hear what you'd like to do while you're there too.

It may also help to know that we will provide some form of childcare option and/or activity for children throughout the weekend, when educational programs for adults are taking place. We've not yet been able to determine what childcare options and/or activities will be available to children within specific age groups, but we'll keep you posted.

The kids really had fun last time, as the YMCA engaged the children who were 4-5 and older in games and group activities (They had to be potty trained, required no nap time, and able to separate from parents fairly well). Those who were 5-17 years of age participated in these activities.

The younger children (infants and toddlers) had the option of being in private babysitting, provided by a private vendor, (The infants mostly took advantage of this service.), or in day camp, provided by YMCA camp personnel, for toddlers and pre-schoolers under the age of 5 (who were not potty trained, who required nap time, and who were unable to separate well from parents).

Regarding housing: We have arranged for private rooms, each equipped with its own private bathroom. These private rooms are located inside of two distinct lodges that offer private housing. We will occupy two floors of one lodge, and one floor of another lodge (These are the floors that offer private rooms with private bathrooms.).

It was so wonderful to be in lodges at camp last year, because people could go into their rooms, or hang out in the common areas and visit into the wee hours of the morning, if they felt like doing so...and many did!

This will be UBPN's 2nd camp. The first was held just last year, 2001, in Granby, Colorado, at the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch facility.

Thanks for your excitement! This is going to be another great camp experience. We're glad you're already planning to be there with your family.

Cathy
