Hi all

Im just home from France and i have recieved a letter from Doctor Birch informing me that instead of going to see him on the 6th of January i have now to go to the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow to see a doctor there. Is this a good move? or should i wait for an appointment with dr Birch?

Hi Michelle, hope you had a good time in France!
The head honcho at Glasgow Victoria used to be Mr TEJ Hems, he trained under Rolfe Birch but apart from that I don't personally know anyone who has seen him. He has been specialising since 1985 and would probably know his stuff about bpi, why not go and see him anyway then decide whether he is the right doctor for you? They may have made the change so you can get better person to person evaluation and treatment-London's a long way to go if you need to have more visits.

Yeh thats the doctors name. I thought that if Prof. Birch had recommened him well he must know something. SO thats wot ill do and if im not happy with that i can always go to london then.

Do phone the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London and ask if Mr Birch will be present at the appointment. Sometimes Mr Birch travels to Scotland to see his patients there, so it might be that Mr Birch could be present.
if you are unsure, do contact them and ask if you can still keep the appointment with Mr Birch as he has an immense amount of experience with young adults of your age, however the one thing I would say, is that Tim Hemms will consult with Mr Birch as they work quite closely and he will contact Mr Birch to see what he thinks about your case. If he is has any queries about your injury I am sure he will refer you back to Mr Birch for more information or advice.

I've been very lucky and have seem Mr Hemms under the recommedations of Pro Birch - and your under a great doctor at the victoria, Mr Hemms is very experienced with this type of injury and trained with Birch in london.

Hi Michelle, I have never met Tim Hemms personally, but I do know that he is highly recommended by Proff. Birch; you are in very good hands. He wrote me a very nice supportive letter after I sent him some posters about the U.K. TBPI Group. The physiotherapists there seem really nice too. Good luck with the appointment when it comes round!
