My son was hospitalized recently with pnemonia. Is this common with BPI?

Re: Pnemonia
I think that everyone can report some kind of lung weakness. Many kids have asthma- especially when they have some sort of respiratory bug.
I hope he's feeling better now. This must have been very hard for you. Sorry that you both had to go through this.

Re: Pnemonia
Hi, my child is ten and has a moderate injury and has never had any lung weakness, asthma, or pnemonia. She did have a couple ear infections but that's about as serious as she has ever had. Thought I'd post just to show that it might not be common in all.....
I hope others post because I am curious now.

Susie, I forgot to add that I hope your little guy is all better now. My other child has been hospitalized with pnemonia before when she was a baby and it's hard to go through.

Re: Pnemonia
The only problem Ben has is a slight suseptablitity ( i know i didn't spell that right!) to bronchitis, but his older bro does too as does mom and dad!! Other than that, just the usual colds.
Re: Pnemonia
gosh - from the list the other day it seemed like a lot had asthma...guess I got it wrong... it probably depends also on what nerve got damaged...C4 is for the diaphragm...
Re: Pnemonia
I had T1 injured so I don't know if this makes a difference.
I had pnemonia a several times as a child and as an two/three times as an adult. I had croup until I was ten and Bronchitis forever. I have asthma now...
As a child my family doctor always told me my lungs were weak and never to smoke... and I had tons of florascopes... and lung xray...
Seems to be a weak spot for me... some other adults have mentioned it too.

Re: Pnemonia
The majority of the respiratory problems here were at birth and she had transient tachyapnea and pleural effusions. This persisited somewhat until after primary and she seemed to clear up (and gain in cognitive skills much quicker..hmmm) after primary surgery. It was explained to us that she had the pleural effusions because she was pulled from the birth canal and the fluid was not forced from her lungs properly but TCH found c4 entrapped in the neuroma from the rupture of c5/6. They were able to clean it up and preserve it intact. A few months after that and she took off! No more difficulty breathing, fewer respiratory infections, just ears continued.

Re: Pnemonia
it is my understanding that the diaphragm can be affected in BPIs(phrenic nerve) which could put a child at greater risk forlung infections...You would know if therewas phrenic involvement probably- Max puked and puked the first few weeks and had heavy breating quite often ~because it seemed as if it was getting better I never took him in (wanting to avoid testing on him) and it eventually got better, I was also exclusively nursing which makes a definate difference if the baby is predisposed to illness for any reason...
Re: Pnemonia
Thank you very much for sharing. Sawyer it nursed and we live a very healthy life style. This is why I am stumped and think that it has to do with his bpi injury. He got better quickly but now is coughing again. I put him on the albuteral breathing treatments again to prevent the pnemonia from coming back. Fingers are crossed that it will work.
Thanks again to you all!!! I don't get to come here to often but I always know to come to you all when I get stumped on something pertaining to bpi and get a world of information.
