Nerve transfer.
I just got back from stanmore on friday I had a nerve transfer from my chest and intercostals and had them transfered to my arm to the nerve that supplies my hand in the hope of getting some pain releif. I was told that their would be no function return but on getting home I feel I can felx my bicep a little. Has anyone else have any similar experience.

Hi Derek
It sounds like you have had very similar surgery to the one I had nine years ago, also in Stanmore.
I did get some pain relief (I no longer have any pain in my upper arm) and I did have some return of function in the biceps, although it wasn't until about 8-9 months after the nerve graft. The muscle became much stronger after a few more months, and now I can bend the elbow quite strongly. Have they put your arm in a sling to limit the movement while the graft 'takes?' Hope you are feeling a bit better now you are out of hospital....is the food there as awful as it used to be? :0)
