All packed and ready to head to St Andrews for the 75 World Open One Armed Golf Championship, first round will be Monday July 2nd. There are 72 players from 14 countries competing with about twenty players who have handicaps less than 15, so the competition should be very tough.

I will post a few updates as the tournament progresses and will do a post tournament wrap up.

Geez Dan, that sounds so awesome. I hope you hit 'EM long and straight!!!

Keep us updated on the fun and when you get back, I would love to hear your tips on playing with one arm. My TBPI has left me (currently anyway) with no use of my left arm and hand, but I'm ready to rip away with my good arm. I miss the game big time...had an invite for tomorrow but haven't tried it at the range yet as I'm just now getting close with recovery from other injuries.

I can't wait to hear how it goes for you. Sounds like the dream trip of a lifetime.

Best wishes.

Jeff

Hi Fred,

You can see from this picture I don't use my bad arm at all, I have no use of it, so I just put it in my pocket to get it out of the way. Ask away on the tips, except I will say what I believe and work hard to do, you need to get the club on the proper swing plane, which there is a correct swing plane and it doesn't matter if you have one hand or two on the club. Or I'll say it another way, the ball doesn't know that the club hitting it has one hand or two on it, so get the club on the ro=ight path and you will be ok.

Just in case you were wondering, I am playing to about a 13-14 handicap and I hit my 7 iron 145-150 and a good drive is out there about 240-260. So the game is doable with one hand and is just as much fun as with two. So when you are healed from your other injuries, get out there and start swinging.

By the way, the shoes I wear now are the Footjoy BOA's, they don't have laces but have a dial on the rear of the shoe that works like a snowboard boot, not only are they great for support, but for one hand, they are BEST! (you can search Footjoy BOA and find a bunch of models, from about $60.00 to over $200)

Reason I mentioned the shoes is I was looking at my left foot and noticing that I had rotated my weight too far to the left or back, the weight should be more forward and on the toe. That is a bit technical, but produces a better shot and eliminates a bad pull, which this shot was a little left.

Rock'n Roll Dan!!!

Thanks for the mass encouragement on this awesome post. Wishing you the best out there on a trip of a lifetime!

Keep us posted. I enjoy reading about your attention to the biomechanics of your game. I like that considered mentality of paying attention to all you can, then doing the best with what you've got, which you are clearly doing!

Cheers,
Chris

Someone please share this on UBPN's FB page/s. I don't know how to do it.
This IS a great story for Mom's and teens AND the rest of us One-Handed people.
Many new people to our BPI Family do not come to these Forums,I discovered.
Thanks

Hi Dan,

Here's to hoping you hit it long and straight, and had a few 1 - putts today! That picture is amazing...I understand what you say about the swing plane but what about your other arm...I can't believe you just put your hand in your pocket instead of an athletic sling. Good for you. Can I ask how much mobility/control you have with the BPI arm? Also, you were obviously a talented player before...how long did it take for you to get back in the game, and did you take any lessons or just go to the range and start with the basics? Do you have any shoulder instability and pain in your BPI arm from playing and swinging that hard? Also, do you use any wrist brace or stability device for your "good" arm?

Sorry for all the questions but I love golf and am having a tough time not participating this summer. But I'm close except for the pain in my unstable shoulder.

Thanks for the motivation...that picture has me so fired up to go let it rip later this summer.

Thank you Dan.
