stellate ganglion nerve block
stellate ganglion nerve block
Pain Management Center has suggested this procedure to determine if pain can be stopped in the sympathatic nerve group. If anyone has come across this, I would appreciate your sharing with us.

Re: stellate ganglion nerve block
i had 4 stellate ganglion blocks. they were the best thing i ever did. (as far as my pain goes) it is one of those things that if it works, it works wonders. if it does not work, it does nothing. you just have to get the first one and see how it goes, then go from there. but it does take more than one injection. make sure the dr that gives it to you has a lot of experience with it.
good luck and hope it works as well as mine did.

Thank you. May I ask where your procedure was done and why you say to make certain the dr has plenty of experience?

Re: stellate ganglion nerve block
my pain management dr did mine. i think that is usually who does them. personally, if someone is shooting something into my nerve that is already severely damaged, i want to KNOW that they thoroughly know what they are doing.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Severe BPI, complete root avulsion; C5-T1, mtrcle acdnt. 31Jan10 Ive had nerve x-fer surgery Sep'10 that joined one of my trapezious nerves with the superspinatus mscle & the intercoastal nerve at my chest w/ my bicep. The intrctl nerves were dmged and deep in scar ts to reach the bicep so 14in of nerve was tkn frm my calf to allow the in-coastal grow to the bicep. The sprspinatis strted wrking after 6 mo, now is strong. The bcep std working at 13 mo and curntly is very weak; I excercise it as mch as i can. My rt arm is useless but I still work as purch mgr and do it sngl/lft handed. Great pain to deal w/; it stops me several x a day but I work thru it. I take Neurontin, 300mg, 4X day. If I STOP Nrtn I have svre pain spasms constant; pretty much impsble to get anytng done; I wld spend a good bit of my day hunched in pain. So I put up w/ the sd efcts of memry loss and fatigue that Nrtn has because that's a lot better than pain. I also use Durogisic patch, 25ug/h, evry 72 hrs
Re: stellate ganglion nerve block
I've had 3; unfortunately they didn't help. As @jmar says, make sure your Dr has experience: my last one scared the heck out of me because he hit some nerve that he shouldn't of and it hurt like crazy plus my eyes went black- couldn't see for a few seconds. The last one was done by a Dr that didn't have a lot of experience. The first 2 were by a Dr that did about 10 a week, they were fine, only side effect was a droopy eye but that is to be expected and went away in a few hours. Unfortunately my pain was un-affected. Good luck with yours, its certainly worth a try, I've heard a lot of success stories.
