My name is Stuart Chin. I was recently involved in an motorcycle accident that left me with Brachial Plexus with avulsed nerves.

Unfortunately the accident occurred after I had been laid off from work. My insurance has expired. At this time I cannot afford to have the necessary surgery to repair the injury. I have researched several insurance programs and have found that most do not cover existing injuries. The policies that do cover existing injuries do not have the necessary physicians on their plans.

This has left me in a difficult position.

I’m am reaching out to anyone and everyone for help.

Can you please direct me to any organizations or individuals that may be able to assist me?

Sincerely,

Stuart Chin

Hi Stuart,

I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I am not sure of any agencies, but I do know several hospitals offer programs based on income that may assist you with your medical necessities. I know of a family that was able to get 85% of their son's surgery covered and 100% covered of the therapy needed at the hospital they took their son to for his bpi. I would encourage you to exhaust those options by calling the hospital your specialist is at (or possibly others). There are several bpi specialists on our medical resource page that you can contact to see what programs they may offer.

Are you eligible for state medical assistance or disability through social security? I know in Missouri that if you quality for disability through social security you are automatically approved for state healthcare. Here is a website that may also be useful. Under the healthcare reform signed last year, there are more options to those that have no insurance can not get insurance due to pre-existing conditions. Hope this helps.

i would say apply for SS disability. it is very hard to get due to BPI, but i recently was approved for disability due to my BPI. actually, very recently. it is still being processed. i get my first check in september. if you apply, be EXTREMELY SPECIFIC as to why you cant work.
