I haven't been on a UBPN board in forever! For those who have may remember, my name is Layne and I have a sweet boy named Ian. He is almost 9. He was born with a very severe injury (pretty much everything from C5 to T1 was avulsed). He has had two surgeries thus far. He will need more, but has yet to be strong enough. We lived in AZ for several years, then moved to Texas. We are seriously contemplating moving back to AZ because that's the best place we have found for us as far as therapy goes. The therapists we saw in texas said tht they really couldn't do anything more for him. It was incredibly frustrating, so we have taken a therapy hiatus. I've been working with him at home, but he's getting older and we have to get out act together now. I was able to keep in touch with a few people over the years, but I'm looking forward to reconnecting with some old friends and meeting new ones too!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Ian was born in 2002 with complete avulsions at C5, C7, C8 &T1. C6 was partially avulsed. He also has Horners Syndrome. He underwent Primary surgery in Jan 2003, at Texas Childrens Hospital and "mod quad" at Texas Children's in June 2003. After the TCH BPI Clinic was dissolved, we continued to see Dr. Shenaq until he passed away; after his passing we went to Dr. Kozin. We had a very difficult time finding good therapy after we moved from AZ, and it was suggested that we take a break. We are currently contemplating a move back to AZ so we can be close to a good therapist. Ian will probably need the gracillis transfer at a later date, but needs more function in order to be strong enough.
