So I just moved to columbus OH, and they have a VERY NEW Brachial Plexus Clinic through Nationwide Childrens Hospital. Dr. Maya Spaeth is heading up the new department. From what I have read on the website she is specializing on reconstructive/plastic surgery on the hand. I am not sure about what all is offered because I have not yet contacted the doctor. I do love our Mayo Clinic Doctors but this is so much closer. Please let me know if you think I am crazy to take Malik somewhere that we all don't know a lot about?

It can't hurt to go for a visit. You can always keep following up with Mayo too if you don't like the new place. We have taken my son to see several different doctors.
Good luck to you.

There is an older, more well established center 2 hours to your south at Cincinnati Children's Hospital as well...still closer than MN!

We live an hour and a half away from Nationwide Children's and while my son sees the OT/PT dept. for his therapies weekly (and we LOVE their therapists), we go to Cincinnati Children's Hospitals Brachial Plexus Center (it is a 3-1/2 hour drive for us, but well worth it). They are one of the top rated and are a wonderful team with amazing experience. They also have a great social support system. I highly recommend them. My son has seen them since he was 6 weeks old and is now 3. He has undergone 2 surgeries with them and I feel so at peace with the care and concern they show him and us, as his family. They are very family-based in creating goals and in their communication and so knowledgable.
Just my two cents. Like I said though, we do love NCH's OT/PT dept. Our son has seen them since he was 3 weeks old. A great OT there is Marianne Mayhen. She is currently out, but should be returning soon. She works with a lot of bp kids and knows all about k-taping, estim, and is currently working with us to get theratogs for our son.
