My son who is 5 was recommended to have surgery. Dr. Kozin wants to tranfer his lower trapezius for external rotation. He has had no surgery to this point. He is very internally roatated. We understand he will lose no fuction and really only has much to gain according to Dr. Kozin. Has anyone or thier child had this procedure done? Dr. Kozin said this procedure has only been done about 12 times, which has us a bit nervous. Would appreciate any insight from someone who has been through this. The timing could not be worse, as our son starts kindergarten next week, so missing school this year or any time is not something we are looking forward to either, esp. not knowing how he will adjust to school to begin with.

About timing -- how about waiting until December when you have that nice week off inbetween christmas and new year's to get settled ? and it's winter and cold so you don't have to worry about missing anything outside? 3 of Maia's surgeries were done in December and we had one done in May and we vowed to go back to December if she ever needed to do surgery again. Plus in December, the hospitals do so much for the kids -- presents galore!!! visits from all kinds of groups and lots of presentations -- we had in the room ballet dancing...wowee!! My daughter, Amaya, is 9 and we are facing the exact same situaton. She has never had surgeyr before and is looking to gain external rotation. Dr. Kozin has also recommended the Trap Transfer (lower third) for her. We are actually scheduled for surgery this Tuesday but I am afraid that we are feeling nervous about our decision and am waiting on a call from Dr. Kozin. I agree that 12 is not alot. Amaya is very functional and this surgery seems very difficult in terms of recovery and I am becoming a little uncertain. I really could use a good story, so please if anyone has had a LOWER TRAP FOR EXTERNAL ROTATION please, please, please share... Thank you!!!!
