question about Brachial Plexus Injury (traumatic)

I was in a car accident and diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury, torticollis, and a bulging disc.
I was given an EMG which is what I assume is how they diagnosed the brachial plexus injury. I have full use of my arm. I've woken up and been unable to use it twice but function quickly returns.
Is brachial plexus injury diagnosed based on EMG results or symptoms? I can't find information.
