Hello - I am new to this forum and am seeking information. My son is now 13 yrs old and was born with Erb's in his left shoulder in 1996. He has done fairly well with his Erb's up until about 6 months ago. He began getting migraine headaches. We have been to many doctors, specilists and hospitals and the general concensus is that the growth spurts he is going through is effecting his muscles and nerves resulting in the nerves going into his head causing the severe headaches. These headaches are very bad, so much so he throws up. I've had to quit my job and now home school him full time while my wife is working full time. The medical bills are enormous. But anyway has anyone else experienced these type headaches from Erb's?

Many of us get them, but it can't be proven that they are from a BPI injury. Migraines are one of the most common ailments that affect teens/adults. I started getting them when I was 15, and they were bad then. I still get them, but now have meds to take that work to get rid of them. Sometimes it doesn't work and I end up in the ER needing IV meds, but most of the time they go away within 24 hrs.

Have the doctors done any scans (MRI) to make sure there is nothing else going on?

Does he take any medication for them?

There are meds he can take daily to prevent them as his are so bad, and not just for when he gets one.

Thanks for the reply Marieke. We have him on meds to try and control the headaches but they keep reoccrring. He also takes muscle relaxers for his shoulder pain.

Maia had shoulder pain for years. It had gotten so bad that she spent days where she would just scream and there was nothing we could do for her anymore outside of a surgery that would be a complete crap shoot that it would help her pain.... until I met Dr. Tedd Koren. 4 treatments on Maia -- he never touched her arm -- he adjusted her cranium and neck - and the pain was virtually gone. Before this time nobody ever treated the trauma that she received to her head and neck - we all just worked on "the arm". It was amazing. I would highly recommend this modality to you - it's called Koren Specific Technique and if you tell me where you live, I have a list of KST chiropractors who do KST full time (meaning that they have more experience and have devoted their practice to it rather than just taking the course and never using it except once in a while). The other thing I would suggest is going to a really good homeopath who works constitutionally.

I am 48 (obpi)and have have had migraines since my teen years. I just finished asking this question to other adult obpi.Alot of adults with obpi do get migraines. There has never been any type of formal research on this, but in my opinion I believe it could be a factor. I found that foods trigger some of my migraines. Watch out for msg. It is in alot of food. Especially flavored potato chips and a variety of snack foods, soups etc....

Judy you brought up a good point about foods. I had forgotten about that.. I was told as a teen to avoid certain foods, and just looked it up again.

"Published surveys have found that the most commonly reported food triggers are cheese, chocolate, alcohol, bananas, and citrus fruit."
