Would strengthening the scapular stabilizers help with scapular winging? C. Bearly

I can't answer this one. I was a very physical child and had tons of activities working on my arms shoulders and muscles. I have scapular winging and used my upper traps to move my arm. When KateP brought the Myotrac to camp I discovered a way to use my arm without using my upper traps and that eased some of my neck and back pain.

My winging is not as noticeable as it was when I was a small child.

Yes strengthening the scapular muscles can be helpful in decreasing winging of the scapula. You should see an occupational or physical therapist for a home exercise program. I am an OT and I use E-Stim and kinesiotaping with many of the children that I see with BPI who have scapular winging. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additonal questions about this.

So I realize that this has nothing to do with your question, but I can't tell you how excited i am to hear that other people have to deal with scapular winging! Well not that you have it too, but that I finally have something in common with others. I've never met anybody else with Erb's and I am brand new to this site, so I am excited to have others to talk to. I will say, however, the winging has lovingly been named my chicken wing and my lucky fin by friends and family. Haha in a way it makes me unique and is always a great conversation starter! So sorry to get off the topic of your question, but I just had to post my comment.
