Interesting to see the thoughts from 140 years ago. They were doing electrical stimulation even back then! They talk about active and passive range, pain issues-and some of the suggestions are the same as today. Although many are what would be considered VERY odd! Peruse through and leave any comments you think interesting and page reference...

Sure is a nice big book- I wish the doctors would of used it in the 50s at my birth. I do have a beef you know , now the why at 14 they told me in the 60s there was nothing more they could for my erbs. I did not try to go to see any doctor ever again. It is the way it was. I cant believe so many babies still get this but I am so mad! That many end up with out the need direction after birth or Bpi issue later that have to search so much for the right treatment for the bpi issue and the doctors. I wonder how many doctors use this book today :?:

Tom ;) :D

i was injured Nov. 1939 and often wondered why the doctors seemed to know so much as they guided my parents. ROM was started at 2 weeks and brace was designed and made within weeks. I wore Statued of Liberty brace for 11 months and it was taken off and ROM and warm oil massage at least three times a day. I guess someone in NY Hospital was taught how to take care of OBPI (Erbs) babies way back then. It's amazing how much they knew and yet not everyone was given treatments. I was lucky to be born in an area that had access to a major hospital even then.

I notice they spoke about how cold the limbs are. That is still a major problem for me and especially during this time of year.

if it was written in 1869, why is it still something that is not widely known... even though its more common than downs syndrome?? thats one question to ask the medical community!
