Concerned about a family member in a very recent accident...

Just wondering, and keep in mind we still know very little at this point. My husband's cousin was in a car accident 2 days ago and is still in the ICU for a couple more days. Right now we're happy she woke up, and I believe they can't truly evaluate her injuries till her lungs heal. All I know is her C1 and C2 vertebra are broken. She can feel her toes, but her arms are unresponsive. Not sure what that all means. And maybe it's a wait and see, but due to my awareness of BPI's I was concerned where this might lead.
Any thoughts, or suggestions. Is there anything that I can mention to them to make sure she gets the best care? Maybe questions they should ask the Dr. They are out of State, so we can't be with them at this time, no matter how much we want to be.
Thanks.

At C1 and C2, anything below that point can be "disrupted". She may have feeling and some movement below that, but it may not be everywhere. When I was injured at T1 I could wiggle my big toe on the right after 3 weeks, but nothing else.
Depending on how badly the nerves are injured will depend on what she can/can't feel/move and depend on how long and how well things heal.
Are they giving her anything for swelling of the spine (if there is any?)? IV steroids...
It really is a game of wait and see at this point.
