Hi
We will like to know if some one could help us. Our daughter Jocelisse is 5 years old now. She had the primary surgery when she was 6 months here in Houston at the Texas Children's Hospital, then the last summer at the Texas Children's Hospital was performed the Mood Quad. Our life has been changed since our daughter birth. We left everything for our baby. When she turned 2 years old we moved from our Beautiful Caribean Island of Puerto Rico to Houston, Texas. We arrived here with our daughter in hands and alone at the point we do not where we will sleep because we do not had family or friends at here in Houston. Also was a new language for us (Sorry if I do any gramatical mistake). But we only think in our daughter recovery and well being. Now she have a good movement of her shoulder and her elbow, thanks, to the surgeries performed (Primary and Mood Quaad). Now the doctors told us is time to get some functional improvement of her hand and wrist. They will be transfering some tendons and one piece of muscle from her leg to get some function of her hand. I will like to get more information about this topic or find some parent with kids that had this surgery or are in the process. I has been traying to get more information but I can't find anything maybe because is something new in the microsurgical campus. The doctors said this is a high risk surgery and will take around 14 hours to perform this one. And some scars will be on her leg and hand. I write this letter to who will like to read our story and help us. I'm cryig and praying to the Lord, He is the only one could iluminate us to take the right decision. Thanks,

Jose & Ivelisse Morales

Hi Pam
Tha't what we will like to get second opinions soon. She had the primary and secondary surgeries at the Texas Children's Hospital. We went the last Thursday to her fallow up appointment. We will go to another appointment next Tuesday, November 27 to meet the Doctor is performing this surgery at the Texas Children's Hospital. He is the person will answer all our questions. Since we moved to Houston (3 years ago) they has been telling us about this kind of hand surgery and the high risk, that's why the crew wait until she turn 5 1/2 years. Because they said could get better results if they perform this surgery now instead of wait until she grow up. Why? I don't have the answer. The only I could think is this kind of surgery is on reserch now. I want more about the prognosis. I will like to find people who had this kind of surgery or Doctors performing this surgery too. Thanks for your reply,
Ivelisse

Hi Pam
Thanks to you and to every one who have left positive messages to us here on this massage board and the emails received since yesterday too.

Wow!! I think you are doing awesome for having to make so many changes in your life. What great and loving parents!!! We have a 6 year old son who has had 3 surgeries in Houston. The last one was the hand and wrist surgery including his tendon transfee. Alek was 5 when he had this surgery, and in the last year he has had terrific results. He is not so fisted, and he has some independant finger function including his pincer reflex. I think you are wise to question other parents on this, we did the same. I will tell you that I think you are so blessed to live in Houston. Keep us posted as to what you choose to do! God bless. We will keep you in our prayers-
