Is it too late to straighten my elbow?

At birth my arm was set in a splint for 6 weeks. I thought this was the reason for the restricted movement of the joint. Having discovered this web site I have learnt that this is a normal occurance. After 43 years of not being able to straighten my arm I get pain in my wrist and shoulder if I try to carry anything or stand for too long. Is it too late to do anything about my elbow? I see all these new treatments and wonder if I'm too old for help.

I really don't know the honest answer to your question, but what I would say is - is there any chance you could get to see a specialist in BPI?
perhaps they would be able to give you some answers.
Have you ever been assesed by either an occupational therapist or a Physical therapist for a splint?
They are used more over here in the UK to try and straighten contractures of the elbow, it might be worth trying - if you don't try - you'll never know!
Good luck

I would like more information about straighten your elbow if you have any. Stephanie arm does not straighten and the doctors said that it is very likely that it will continue to contract until she has no use of it. She is 8 and has just now gotten a diagnosis.

So glad you made it to the picnic.... Were you amazed to see so many people with the same injury?
Did you get to meet Michael? I told him to look for you....
What were you impressions when you met all of the children. I found it so emotional the first time I met any of the children who were injured. It was so hard... I cried all the way home... I don't know why but I did....
