my daugher has slight horners and again we are waiting to get to dr. nath's office for mod quad and nerve transfer.
i have noticed that it tears alot and sometimes gets gooey/crusty. we thought it was a clogged tear duct but maybe this is a side effect from the horners?? i was told this would not affect her vision by our neorologist, but does this teary eyed stuff ever go away? for a clogged tear duct i was told by the peditrician a procedure can be done at 1 year if it does not go away. just wondering....thanks

Maia has horners but never (even with allergies) had the gooey/crusty thing going on. (she's 11 now)

thanks, weird i wonder what this is and if its really the tear duct or side effect of horners? as your daughter got older did her horners seem less noticable?

I have Horners and as I matured it was barely noticeable unless I was/am very tired. When I was young and sometimes now my right eye will tear more. But at my age that is a good thing. I notice the Horners more because I always had a crooked smile and one side of my face is less lined than the other. It's really not that big a deal. I never liked overhead lights nor light coming at me from the right side and I believe that is due to Horners and the slow dilation of my eye. I know other adults with obpi and Horner's that cannot stand overhead lights... so I don't feel so odd now about it.

It is important to note this in all the medical records because the pupil does not dilate properly. I your in an accident or she is sick it could lead doctors to believe that there is a head trauma.

One of my daughters had crusty, teary eyes and they unclogged them at 8 months old. I was besides my self with the crust and cleaning them and she had no problems after the doctor unclogged both tear ducts.

Frankie had horners really bad at birth the eye didn't even open slowly it got better now you can't even notice it not even in pics but it never watered or got crusty I would see a ped eye doctor he has allergies really bad and even with that it didn't happen sounds like there is something else going on. My son Brayden also had Horner's in is left eye. He also had the clogged tearducts in both eyes, but the right eye was usually the worse. I was told to take a warm wash cloth and hold it under his eye this would help loosen that stuff up so it would clear out. It would work for a day or so but it would come back. It eventually resolved itself on it's own when he was about 4 months. Sometimes they do have to do surgery to unclog it. They said it is a simple procedure. I have heard of someone having to cancel surgery a day before becuase it finally cleared.

thanks everyone, again some days it tears more than others and has the crust, etc. i do the same thing with the wash cloth and it goes away for a week or so.
my daughter will be 4 months this weekend, so i crossing my fingers if its the clogged tear duct it will go away. her horners is her left eye as well. we are one step closer to surgery with some good news today.

Good Morning...
Almost 23 years post surgery. I have horners too...
In the beginning the pupil was fixed very large...there was tearing..then after about a year that stopped and the horners calmed down the pupil was only visible to exam in dim lighting. I still have to watch at night...as if I am driving...my pupil dopes not react properly and still floods with too much light...causing a star like effect. I also notice when I have a sinus flare up on the horners side...my eye will twitch. Due to the nerves running right next to the sinus. This is more anoying than harmful.
So, all in all...Horners does correct itself and heal over time.
This is my experience...
