dynasplint problem

Has any one had any trouble with swelling while wearing the dynasplint? Last night when I put it on my 3 yr old I positioned it just right and made sure it wasnt to tight and when she woke up this morning her whole arm was puffy as well as her hand, and the inside of her elbow had a bluish tint to it. I massaged it really well and streched her, she also had water therapy today. After that I checked her and it still was little puffy. Any ideas?
Another question I have is the directions on putting the dynasplint on say that the end of the metal bars that go along the forearm should be should be on either side of her wrist (it's really hard to describe, bear with me!) Once I position the splint starting with her elbow by the time its on, her suppination is so bad that those bars are above and below her wrist. Does that affect how well the splint will work or will it cause futher damage? Let me know what you all think!

I would definately call your dynasplint representative/ your therapist. Blake wore one for like 2 days(Dr. Nath decided against it), but that was it. How long have you been using it, is this the first time it has happened? I would definately call and ask some questions, and wouldn't put it on again till you find out more...

Jessica - we used the dynasplint for a long time. Sounds like you need to call the orthotist and have him check the splint and positioning out. I wouldn't put it back on until you get it checked out. Something's not right...

If you continue to get this positioning problem and can't seem to make it work, the other option is the ultraflex splint. There is less chance of this splint moving around because it is a custom fit situation and has a better strapping/molding situation.

The reason the splints are worn at night is because the stretching it invokes should be done while the arm is at rest.

I always positioned it with the elbow and that's the part I always checked (when I checked positioning).

The orthotist is supposed to be available for things like this asap - they can even page him/her. The monthly rental fee includes the orthotist time.

anyway - hope you figure it out soon,
francine

Jessica - there's a picture of maia wearing her dynasplint on that page....the positioning is correct there..how does this compare to what's going on with your sweety?

Is her elbow where the joint of the splint is? pointing away from her body? Gosh this is so hard to explain. Kallie's hand is positioned diferent then Maia's in the picture, the ends of the metal bars on Maia are next to her thumb and pinky. Kallie's ends up right in the middle on the top of her hand and under her wrist. But it looks like Maia's elbow is positioned different then how they told me to do Kallie's. I will call the dynasplint tech and ask them, I proably should have done that first. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it greatly Jessica

Good Morning,
I wanted to tell you to contact your Dynasplint Consultant today. He or she can make an adjustment to the splint or the wearing protocol, or both. Dynasplint is gentle and comfortable, so we need to make sure that all is well.
Please call your consultant today and allow us to get your daughter comfy in her splint! I have listed my number as well.
Happy holidays and blessings to you and all your loved ones.
