hi i was hit by a motor bike doing 180km per hour. A list of injuries but main one is bpi to right arm. after 9 weeks i am up and about had all the tests done (twice) nerves still attatched but stretched. i have the nerve pain as every one desribes it. i have gained full movement in shoulder with nearly full strength. with a little bit of bicep and tricep but not enough to move anything with those two muscles. i can also roll my wrist and forearm inwards but not outwards. i do extensive therapy twice a day and my own stuff inbetween. doctors are hopeful we will not have to operate and so am i. has anyone had simular injuries and are you going.

helo everybody first of all i would like to thank everybody on this baord for helping me in my time of need!
my name is Peter Rechenberg i have axilary nerve damage which required surgey to fix. thankfully the docs at mayo clinic did wonderfull! at one year i was showing signs of inmrovment and at 2 years i have up to 70% of my strenght back in my postior deltoid but only about 40 % in my antior and middle deltoid. compared to my friends im weaker but in my eyes my deltoid is like a bodybuilders. even though it is a little deformed and a lot smaller i am so thankfull to have even that much back. the docs were simply stuned when they saw me. (Doctor Bishop and spinner were so proud of themselfs that they were braging on how good of a sugery he did lol) words couldnt even explain the joy i was in when i heard teh news that the docs told me i am their 2nd most secsessful case they have ever done when preforming my type of sugery and will problaly become the most sucsessful. i can now do everything i did before. i hurt my self riding ATVS and have couqured my fear and ride even in the snow its a blast! the only thing i cant do is millitary press but hey so wat thats just one exersise right. they said i would never bench press again and here i am benching over 200 pounds! what im trying to say is i literaly have found God and wish the best to all of you!!! anything is possibe so please pic ur head up and belive!! Their is a God and he has made us humans capable of spactuacuar things and achivments so never give up and always know he loves you no matter what happens!

Hello, I have had a similar injury. I was injured almost six months ago and things have slowly been returning. I had the same problem with turning my hand over - pronation/supination. I could turn my palm down but not up at first. That movement came back in a couple of months. I lost a lot of shoulder function, and bicep ans brachioradiallis. I still cannot lift my arm up at the elbow when my palm is up, when my palm is down I can lift my arm at the elbow all the way. My deltoid muscles are just now kicking in. I have just recently (last 2 weeks) made huge progress with this. I can now lift my arm up over my head. This happened virtually overnight. I was slowly making progress lifting my arm away from my body, and seriously over a couple of days I doubled what I could do before.
If you haven't seen a specialist yet, you should. I just went to the Mayo and got opinions from the best. It is so worth it. No surgery yet, they told me to wait another 6 months to see how much more I heal. Please email me if you would like to discuss further. Click on my user name to get my info and you can also check out my blog about my injury. Good Luck, JJ

Hey Troy, I never really had a problem with my shoulder subluxing. Luckily my rotator cuff kept things in place long enough for other shoulder muscles to start firing again. Now my spinatus muscles and my deltoids are begining to get stronger. My progress is still slow, but there is progress. My shoulder continues to get stronger, but my bicep and brachioradiallis are still not giving me anything. I can flex what is there, but still cannot lift my arm all the way to 90 deg. and above when my palm is facing up. I am 7 1/2 months post accident and I am just continuing to be patient and work hard in therapy, the pool, and working construction(electrical). Work is more therapy than anything. How are things with your doc? You say he is repected in Austrailia, but does he specialize in tbpi? I really can't answer the question of whether or not you shoud see someone else. All I have are my experiences where here in northern (and I mean northern) California, there is NO knowledge of this type of injury. I really had no choice in the matter. If I was going to travel, I wanted to see the best. I did not feel comfortable with my doctors here, but it sounds like you are comfortable. Tough descision, but you still have time to consider all options. If you would like to talk in person feel free to call me on my cell phone - 707-599-5779. I have enjoyed talking to a few people in person as it is easier to get to the nitty gritty. Good Luck, JJ
