Wow !! I am so lucky to come across this site !! Now I won't have to travel down an unknown course alone.
Earlier this week I was diagnosed with a brachial plexus lison to my right arm after an EMG. Any ideas as to what this may mean ?? I had surgery on 1/2/09 to remove my top rib due to my rib and collarbone compressing together causing clotting. Immideatley after the surgery I had no use of my right wrist and hand. Over the past month I have seen no improvement in movement but the pain is getting worse daily. I also have PT three times a week. I have an appointment to see a neurologist next week as he wanted the surgery and clot area to heal first. Any thoughts would be appreciated !!!

Hi LuAnn!

Welcome to the site - although sorry for the circumstances! You definitely will not be alone on here. I just got my Right Traumatic Brachial Plexus Injury (RTBPI) on Dec 3rd, 2008 after a surgery I had to remove a cervical rib becuase it was pushing on my nerves. The people here are very supportive and helpful!!!

During the surgery you the docs might have knicked something. Did they tell you anything? During my surgery the doctor accidentally cut two of my nerves (one completely and one partially) which caused my BPI. If they did not tell you that this happened perhaps they do not know, and I would get it looked into. If you did not have problems before the surgery though, surgery would be the only thing I can think of that would cause it.

If you have any questions or just want to talk or vent you can email me at: its1105@yahoo.com

Or you can always post on here too and anyone will be willing to listen I am sure.

Well for both of you, being so soon after, I hope and pray that it heals and you don't have to go down this road forever. Still a greater chance for you being so soon after. My advice, what helps me the most, getting in a pool a lot with the little styrofoam(?) dumbells and recovering the muscles as much as possible. Hopefully you have a local gym where you are at with a covered pool (Local YMCA discounted my membership based on financial need).
