Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has any info about the connection between torticollis and brachial plexus? My daughter is 18 months now and was diagnosed with torticollis at 3 months but I was only told she had a bpi right arm and a "winged scapula" 3 months ago. I am very confused and angry. Her injury is not that severe as she moves almost like any other toddler but has trouble lifting her right arm to reach up and her shoulder droops forward. I am scared ! She was only 5 pounds when she was born (1 month premature) and no one said that there was any complications! I am unable to share my story as the site keeps saying that it is down. Just wondering if anyone out there had torticollis too?

Michele,
Please consider posting on the general message board, this forum is mostly related to technical problems with using the site. It sounds as though you really need to see a brachial plexus specialist to get some firm answers and a diagnosis.
Where do you live? Please check out the Medical Resource Directory (you can reach it from the home page of this site) for a comprehensive listing of specialists.
Good luck,
Bridget

Hello, My name is Lynne Byers and my daughter who is now 31/2 was injuried at birth and had right arm erbs palsy and left neck torticollis. The torticollis needs Physical threapy as well as the erbs palsy. The physical therapist will show you the proper way to stretch both the arm and neck.. I do not know where you live but I live in Boston and I strongly reccommend you have an orthopedic surgeon(children's)to evaluate your child. Please feel feel to call or e-mail me...I like you was extremely upset when all of this happen during the birth process. My e-mail is
Lynnedixie@aol.com and my phone number is 508 644-3433. Sincerely, Lynne Byers

Michele,
My little guy is 9 months, diagnosed with left torticollis at 2 weeks, with a hemotoma. Ref to a ped surgeon who thankfully ruled out surgery. Stretches and Physical therapy began. Pt is concerned with quality of movement and shoulder/scapula instabilty. We continue to have cycles where the head tilt is evident followed by periods of terrific midline posture, and then tilt again. Pt is concerned about possible plexus injury, and we are scheduled for a neuro consult. It seems that the link between torticollis and brachial plexus injury is much more common, especially when the torticollis is from birth injury.. Where are you now in terms of your status?

HI. My son Zak has Torticollis. He had it since birth from the doctor pulling on his head. She twisted it too hard. It can happen in a natural birth and rarely a c section. It usually on the opposite side of the injury. My son's arm{right}is affeted, so his head faced left. He is has therapy. Does this help? Ann
