loss of feeling

My daughter is 13 and has left arm brachial plexus since birth. She is now complaining of not feeling things in that arm, mostly her lower arm and pinky finger. She cries telling me how it itches and when she scratches it she can't feel it. Not sure who to see about this. Anyone have any suggestions? She said this just started about a month ago.

Thanks,
Janalee

You should see a doctor, as any type of new thing is potentially a problem. Neuropathic "pain" sensations, like itching, numbness is due to nerve damage and in this case new nerve damage.. she may have a pinched/trapped nerve. Sounds like the ulnar nerve may be causing this.

Dr.Kozin emailed me back and said I should follow up with them and have electrodiagnostic testing done. Anyone have this procedure done and I wonder if it would be better to see him or have the testing done locally? We don't have a doctor around here familiar with brachial plexus injury.

I hope you are able to see a doctor soon and get the answers and help you need. We all will be thinking of you.

For the two of you whose children experienced this, are their BPIs significant? Just wondering who should be watching for warning signs that this is happening to their child.
