Post by Marnie »

When I do ROM with Peyton, particularly the stop sign excercise, I feel popping in his shoulder, has anyone experienced this? What is it caused from?

Marnie - I would suggest asking your bpi doctor about this asap. Popping might mean different things for different children. Good luck,

Ashley had the same problem at 3 years of age. We took her to our BPI specialist and in her case it was that her shoulder was about 1/4 of an inch out of it's socket. Surgery was not suggested, however we were told to rest her arm/shoulder as ofter as possible and especially at night, by propping it on a pillow. The Doc recommended no bi-lateral group activites, such as ring around the rosie, and off we went. A month later when she was re examined it had repaired itself and has not shown up since.

This was our experience, it is really important to have your BPI specialist examine your child.

Good Luck!

well lenni pretty much summed up what I was going to say....

it could be

(1) nothing
(2) a subluxation (bone out of place)
(3) dislocation

call the doc

good luck,

The same thing is happening to my 3 mo old son Bradley when I do the "so big" exercise. I asked my PT about it, she had no answers for me. I called the specialist we are going to see on tuesday. He advised not to do the exercise until he see's him. I will post once I have some answers.

Hi Marnie
Yes, we are having the same experience with our 15 mth. old son and the strange thing is that it happens mainly on the same exercise you mentioned. It kind of freaks me out and doesn't quite seem right. I have expressed concern but our specialists and therapists aren't concerned about the popping, but no one has tried it, heard it, felt it, etc., so I just hope they are right.

I noticed that Lesley has popping in her shoulder as well, I plan on asking the specialist what that means for her, it really worries me, to hear that noise.
