Hi Daniel,I'm Scott in Iowa. My experience has been totally opposite. My friends have really been a huge source of support. I was injured almost 2 years ago and really don't know if I'd have made it this far without their support. I do get tired of them always asking if there's been any improvement since I know I stuck like this but they mean well. It does take time for those around you to adjust. Anymore it's almost a non-issue. Give them time. And you know there's always someone on this site who's in the same boat and willing to lend and ear.

Daniel
I had the same experience as you did. That aspect was almost as hard as losing my arm! I felt less as a person to them. I thought they were embarrassed of me or something. Still to this day I try to reach out to my best friend in HS and she still keeps her distance.
I feel for you. Its painful. I finally let go of them, with the except of my former best friend, and met new people at my job that did not know before my accident.
I'm sorry you had this terrible experience on top of everything else you are going through.

Yeah I had the same thing happen, most of the people I knew as my friends were all there for me after the accident, but after I got out of the hospital months later I began to see them less & less, I think it could have been that they saw taking me anywhere with them to much trouble because of the wheelchair, but I did have friends that I still see and talk too from back then, but very few.

That was one of the hardest things for me to cope with after the accident because before it I was basically never home, I was always out with friends, then after the accident I was home all the time, took a couple years to really come to accept.

don't you wonder if they were really friends to begin with? And what did we have in common with them that we don't have in common anymore? Its so sad how people can just turn away. I wonder if anything ever happened to them if they would start to come around again?
