Hi and welcome! where do you guys live? just wanted to let you know that there are bpi picnics and gatherings during the warm months - hope you get to come and meet others!

http://www.injurednewborn.com/gatherings.html

Also - another good page for you to read at this point is found right on the homepage - click on the button that says Information For New Parents - middle right side

And then there is even more if you click on the Awareness links from the front page...and then click on birth injuries...

and if you're not needing reading glasses by then, on the home page you can also click on the Medical Resources guide for a listing of brachial plexus specialists around the nation (still incomplete but being updated as the information comes in)

ask questions - if we can help you here we will :)

Well you're right smack in the middle of Chicago and Ohio... picnics will be in both states AND you have the added benefit of a bpi conference (www.nbpepa.org) in August, too! I have info about them on http://www.injurednewborn.com/gatherings.html.

also - from the medical resources list- here's a doctor in michigan
http://204.157.3.66/medicalresources/je ... ntact.html
(of course you have to do your own research on the doc)

hope this helps,
kissies to your little guy,

Hi,
I'm Cindy mom to Melanie (2 1/2) and Matthew (13 months) both rbpi. Melanie recovered and Matthew is still recovering. He had one surgery and is scheduled for another in September. We have him involved in physical therapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, and reiki energy.

Welcome to the site! Francine listed many good sources of information.

I'm organizing the Ohio Erb's Palsy/Brachial Plexus Injury Support Group picnic on June 1st in Columbus, OH. It's at the Columbus Zoo. Dr. Saleh Shenaq from the Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital Brachial Plexus Center will be evaluating patients with bp injuries at our picnic, free of charge. There are several families from Michigan that will be there also.

You're more than welcome to join us if you'd like Dr. Shenaq's opinion about your son's injury or if you'd just like to meet many other families with children of all ages who also suffered brachial plexus birth injuries.

If you're interested in attending, our Ohio Support Group website is: http://members.aol.com/ohioerbspalsy

Pre-registration is necessary. I can e-mail you the names of several local hotels/campgrounds if you plan to spend a night in Columbus.

Hello Shane's Dad!! Welcome to the board from another fairly recent newcomer. I'm a LBPI from a trauma over 45 years ago (back when nobody anywhere knew what was going on). Your son has a real good chance of getting through this with flying colors. What part of Michigan are you from? I'm originally from Three Oaks in the extreme southwestern corner & about an hour from Chicago.

HI Shane's dad. Sorry your son was injured. We do have dads that post but not often so I'm glad you found us! One thing I do want to stress is tummy time. I don't see alot of us talking about it too often but it is very important. BPI kids tend to have weaker bones on their bpi side and the weight bearing is important. Hope mom is ok and welcome.
