I was reading the posts about arm braces/slings for exercising and I'm kind of confused where do I get them, what size am I and how much do they cost???.......................
My injury is 20+ yrs old. I have had several surgeries, 5 in the past 18 months.
I'm getting close to 40 yrs old and I want to start exercising again. But I have noticed in the last few years its getting more and more painful. My husband and I took our 4 children to the Zoo over the weekend and by the end of the day my arm was so swollen I could not get my rings off. My chest hurt like someone stepped on it and my arm was ready to just fall off. I guess its taking its toll on me from hanging there for all these years.
I need a brace!!! I want to walk or start running. I need to get my heart pumping again. I read all the posts but who out there can recommend the best for running? I'm 5'5 and weigh about 115. So how true to size do they run? When I come home in sling or a body brace they are HUGE on me, the ones from Mayo......
Someone help me????

Re: HELP
Kath,
The slings that you have been reading about are custom made slings. You need to get in touch with Dan from the boards. If you click on his name in one of his posts about the 'slings for running' you can get his e-mail. He recently had one made for my fiancee. When you talk to Dan, he can tell you how to take measurements and the price of the sling. He also has photos available. The sling is just as great as everyone says also. It wraps around your body in the chest area and crosses over both shoulders. It has an envelope sling type part that the affected arm rest in and velcros securely to your body. It keeps the arm very stable and close to your body. My fiancee has noticed that it helps immensely when bending over. Before, his affected arm would fall away from his body and his shoulder would fall out of place and the arm would be in the way of what he was doing. With the sling on, he can do that with ease. He says that it is very comfortable to wear also. If you have any other questions, feel free to e-mail me at timmygirl711@yahoo.com. I hope that this was helpful to you!

Re: HELP
Hi there.
after all that there is this... http://www.alimed.com/ProductDetail.asp ... id1=&oid2=
regards,
Scott
The time is passed and I am still in a blue and white brace still snug as a ??? snug as an arm could be and still be breathing. If I didn't have all my other problems I could run, ski, exercise, whatever in this sling. Trust me when I say it is not as large as the photo makes it appear to be. Nevertheless I may be looking into one of Dan's as well. If for nothing else but a change....

FROM THE UPDATE DESK,
After talking with Dan I now have an understanding of his braces and I gotta tell y'all I feel compelled to get myself back on a moutain bike with one... or get back to something, anything...I need to do something. I came into this injury with complications from other injuries and if I can get back to them well then by golly that would be something.
