Found a modality to reduce Maia's shoulder pain & wanted to share (m)

For the past few months Maia has been in pain rated from 7 to 8 out of 10 on most days. She has missed a great deal of school and this pain has forced us to look into further surgery to help relieve some of this pain.
Maia had a long conversation with me - she is not ready to agree to surgery - she asked me to try to find her someone who can help her pain without surgery. So I went on a quest and I found two people in my area.
It was like that movie where that saying comes from - something like build the (baseball) field and they will come..... I found out that someone I know from our synagogue - whose daughter is in the choir with Maia - is a chiropractor who "invented" a very different technique. He is Dr. Tedd Koren and his technique is called Koren Specific Technique.
Dr. Koren asks the body questions through the cranial system and then makes adjustments to what the body says it needs using this electrical tool something like the "activator". There is no cracking, palpating, stretching or anything like that - it is a mechanical "fix".
Since I don't believe in doing anything to a child that you haven't tried and tested yourself - I've been going, too. I've had 5 treatments and the clavicle that I broke two Novembers ago is finally no longer a pain producing issue, the nose I broke 4 years ago that produced migraine headaches is no longer an issue, and much more that I can report on.
Maia went twice and is reporting that her pain levels have dropped down to a 2 and it has been that way for two weeks now - even after a 3-day drumming concert where she would have been in terrible shape afterwards - nope. She was at a 2.
Dr. Koren is retired from his practice so he only saw us as a favor because we are part of his congregation. But he spends his days publishing and teaching others how to do the technique, around the world. He has a directory and you can look up chiropractors in your area who do this technique. Everyone who takes his course is in that list - so it does not mean that they are actually doing the technique - you need to find someone who is doing this full time.
Each time we've gone, we've ended up feeling really sick afterwards, in pain and needing to sleep and stay home from school and work. But the next day or day after is way better.... change happened a day or two later and the changes are not reverting back (except my nose which clicks out of joint when I sneeze! - kinda unavoidable)
The other modality which Maia is receiving is St. Johns Neuromuscular Therapy - which is an advanced bodywork technique - or basically a really good massage. We found a nurse who works with spinal patients who has been doing this massage technique for 15 years. She was very knowledgeable about central & peripheral nervous systems and whatever she didn't know (about bpi) I was able to teach her and she immediately understood. They have a directory on their site as well and the same goes with them - ask the person if they are doing this full time in their practice.
I don't ask Maia everyday what her pain levels are but about a week after her last treatment with Dr. Koren I asked her and she said 2 and her eyes lit up when she realized that she had been feeling better. Since then I have asked every day and she's stable at a 2. We go back next Saturday.
If Maia can stay stable at a 2 and get even better - then I've accomplished what she asked me to do - which is help her pain without surgery. I hope that we can hold off until she is older. Pr. Gilbert from Paris said to me last year that if we could wait until she is at least 13, the results would be much better. So I'm hoping for this.
Anyway - just wanted to share this. -francine
