anyone heard of stem cell transplant

hi my nane is joy and i am writing on behalf of my son who was diagnosed with bpn about 7 years ago no one knows how it happened as he did not have an accident or anything like that, he start to lose muscle off his arm then his shoulder chest and back he is in a lot of pain most of the time and has very little movement in his arm his neuroligest has no interest at all and says nothing can be done i heard about stem cell trantslants are being used for bpn and would love to hear from anyone who has any in infomation or if there was any meetings i could attend my son is 28 please write back joy

Sorry to hear of your sons problem. BPI can also be caused by virus or other things. Not always traumatic injuries. Have you seen a BPI specialist? They seem to have much more information than a neurosurgeon.
I have heard of stem cell research but don't think they are doing it in this country yet. Looks like there is a dr in England that is getting close to trying it on humans. I would love to have this available for my son.

Nothing is out there yet. For the public at least. The science has been in th laboratory for over 5 years now, but no human trials have started.
As Sue had mentioned, it is imperative that your son go to a specialist the handle BPI frequently. These specialists are rare, but look up in the Resources pages and ask folks here, depending on your location and availability to travel.
