I met with my Pain Management Specialist today. My BPI is not in my spine. It is my shoulder and arm. My Ulna nerve is destroyed. My Median nerve was severed and repaired 7/12/07 using my Ulna nerve via a nerve graft.
I have been experiencing spasms in my left arm for the past two weeks. I had this in February for most of the month. It was excruciating. It was my whole arm but mostly in the shoulder and upper arm. Now it is just above the elbow, forearm, wrist and fingers. I went 6 weeks with normal pain issues. Nothing serious.
The spasms started again 2 weeks ago very severe and painful. I take 4mgs of Dilauded. It helps with the severe pain most of the time. It does not always eliminate all the pain. The spasms go on for 2 hours or more. Most of yesterday and today the spasms have been going on most of the day.
My methadone is going to be increased from 10mgs to 15mgs 3x's a day. My Bacolofen is 10mgs 3x's a day and my Lyrica is 100mgs 3x's a day. If the problem persists they may increase my Bacolofen as well. The Lyrica will not be increased.
He is talking about inserting SCS "Spinal Cord Stimulation". It is done as a test for a few days to see if it is successful for me. If it is it will be a permanent implant. Has anyone had this done? What is it like? Does it work? Have you been able to get off your other drugs? How long have you had it? Anything you can tell me would be great.
Thank you for all your help.
Janelle
SPC (Spinal Cord Stimulation)
Re: SPC (Spinal Cord Stimulation)
Hi, My wife Carrie had no decrease in pain with her SCS implant. She has the classic C5-T1 avulsions, different from your injury. Check out Christophers subject "sticking it to the pain", lot of information there.
Good luck, Dick
