It all depends on the purpose of the brace. I have two different braces that I'm currently using. One is to twist my wrist outward so that it will rest in the more natural position. My hand currently rests with the back of my fingers facing straight instead of the natural angle. The other brace is to pull my fingers down to my palm. These braces are to be used several times a day with the intent to increase the wearing time as much as possible. They are both to improve the ability of my hand.
If it is suggested that you wear a brace by all means ask the purpose of the brace, the expected outcome and how long it is expected that you will require the brace.
Anytime that any equipment is suggested you use ask the purpose, expected outcome and how long you will need it. The more information you get, the more comfortable you will be. Always ask questions and then decide if you think the proposed plan is a plan you see the advantage of and a plan you know you will follow.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Just try something like this for awhile to see if it helps.
I've been wearing one for coming up on my third year I believe.
Good luck.
