delay in handedness becoming apparent?

Post by guestagain »

My child is able to use her arm well (we're not fully recovered), but uses the other one more. Can you tell me when handedness becomes apparent in children with better function?

I just saw this thread and thought I'd respond. We were pretty sure about the handedness of both of our kids by 2 1/2 - 3 yrs old, when they started spending more time coloring, cutting, throwing, etc. My 3 1/2 yr old son has a ROBPI and is clearly right handed. He will only switch to his left hand if he cannot complete the task right handed (for example, he always throws left handed because his ROM is limited in his right arm/shoulder) Thankfully his recovery has been good and I think he will be able to use his dominant arm/hand for most tasks.
