Times of surgery

Post by Tracey »

How long has surgery been for primary? Alexyss is going in for the nerves, release of pecs, and put the humerus back in with her shoulder. Any little bit of info would help give us an idea on what we are looking for!

Tracey - I'm not sure I understand your question.

How long is primary surgery?
But you also mentioned other things in your list and these things are normally done with secondary surgery...

Primary surgery - where they do plexus exploration and nerve grafting can go somewhere between 3-10 hours I would think. It all depends where they are taking the grafts from (behind the ear or legs), how many grafts they have to do, how much exploration and neurolysis has to be done...

The other stuff - pecs release and capsulodesis are fast procedures.

Much of the time is spent getting the child to sleep - preparation - and closing up.

Maia had a capsulodesis and it took around an hour and a half - same with her mod quad.... but primary I think that was around 7 or so hours.

And then again this is the timing for TCH. I understand that primary at other hospitals differs greatly. For example, two families whose children experienced primary surgery with Dr. Terzis told me that theirs were around 24 hours (that was about 3 years ago - haven't heard if there have been any changes to the timing since).

Did I answer your question?

Hope you are having a nice weekend,
