Hannah just had her surgery 1 week ago, and the OT at TCH told me that when she gets her splint off for the 2nd 4 weeks she can't do a whole lot like lift things or weight bearing. Now.... Hannah is only 10 months and not walking yet. The only way she gets around is pulling herself up on stuff or crawling. I'm afraid I am going to pull my hair out trying to keep her from doing anything she wants to do and she is going to go balistic on me because she will be so frustrated too. I'm hoping that maybe she won't really desire to use that arm that much. I have no idea what to expect I guess. How do your kids usually react when the splint comes off? I do not want her to undo what the dr. has done. Help!

Hi Nicole - I can relay to you what Dr. Nath told us about Maia for after the mod quad. BTW Maia also was not walking at that time. He said that she should not be doing any kind of therapy that included weights - like hand weights and such - no lifting. I asked him about her scoot/crawl thing and he said that it might hurt her and she won't do it at all because it will hurt - but if she does it, it means that it's not hurting her and don't stop her. Does that make sense?

And just remember that each child is different and the number of procedures and the types of procedures done in Hannah versus Maia may be different, so you may want to call the doc first to just check it out.

kissies to Hannah,
