Hello again! Been a while!

Hello everyone! I haven't been on for a while to post! I had my shoulder tendon transfer in September and I am doing well. I didn't get as much elevation as I had hoped- I started at about 15 deg before surgery and now I have about 45-50. It's continuing to improve with therapy and the pain is gone finally! haha

I have another surgical option that I am concidering and was wondering if I could get any feedback from anyone here-
Its a humeral rotational osteotomy. Basically they go in and cut through the humerus and rotate it to a new position and pin it. It will give me the "appearance" of external rotation.. and a some funtion with that, but I dont have anything to lose from it...however since it is a big surgery I am still concidering it.
Does anyone here have any info about this type of procedure??

Anyway- I hope everyone is doing well! I'll try to post some pics of my before and after surgery.... it's pretty cool!

Katy,

I'm so glad to hear you're out of pain! I've thought of you often, and had wondered how you were doing since your transfers.

You can do a search for the keywords "humeral osteotomy" and threads will pop up in your results window. If you read a thread where you would like to ask the poster further questions, you can click on their name. If they have not made their e-mail private, you can e-mail them directly with questions.

I have learned so much through correspondence started this way. And, I've never had anyone unwilling to help me, or be offended that I contacted them. I have also been contacted many times in this manner - usually by parents whose children are about to undergo primary surgery. I'm always glad to answer any question asked and help however I can. I'll bet you'll get the same response.

Good luck with this decision. I think it's awesome that you had the guts to undergo a secondary surgery, and I'm so glad it is working for you.

Congratulations, Katy! :)

Hey Katy!!! Great to hear from you. Glad that surgery went well and you are out of pain! I hope it stays that way!

Sorry I dont have any thoughts about your optional surgery. I havent had to think about that one. Or more so I havent been willing to because it is such a permanent thing. But that could be a great thing especially if you have nothin to lose. But maybe email another doc and ask if there might be any cons to the surgery or ask your doc again. You just want to be sure your not going to have to give up dreams or activities you love.

Good luck with your decision and please keep us posted!!! And pics are welcome! I want to see what you have accomplished!

Hugs,
