Just wanted to update you guys with Kayla's progress. I have been working A LOT and have had little time for anything but work and Kayla.
Anyway she turned 1 on Dec. 10th and she is really progressing well. About 10 mos. she finally got her affected hand to her mouth. We could really tell because her thumb was red for a couple weeks from her chewing on it so much. She's still not feeding herself with it but I just have to be patient. She started pulling up 3 days before Christmas, but isn't walking yet. Her therapists wanted her to crawl so bad, but it seems like she uses it for so much more now that she is pulling up. She grabs and holds on to her crib bars and gets a really good stretch on her own and bears weight on affected arm so she can reach with the other on. She has become quite a proficient scooter and gets everywhere she needs (and doesn't need) to get. Therapy is still not going well as far as her hating it, but we are no longer seeing her PT that we had so many problems with and are currently arranging in-home therapy for PT. With the holidays we were really inconsistent about therapy and have now buckled down to OT every Monday morning. I am staying positive that once she gets back in the swing of things she will be more accepting (fingers crossed).
I would like to plan a trip to see Dr. Kozin this Spring. If anyone is interested planning one at the same time let me know. I will be flying from FL.
I am also trying to find time to start a group on Myspace about Brachial Plexus. I am a member of so many Mommy's groups on there and think it would be a great idea to have a place to give info about prevention and help those who have injuries already. I'll give you guys the url when I have it done...if there is anyone that is interested in being a co-moderator let me know.
That's it for now....
