Nerve block

Hi. I'm new here. First EMG is scheduled Wed. Apr. 10. I had shoulder surgery with block of BP. Hand is still numb after 10 days, and I can't curl my thumb & index finger, can't grip anything. I feel warm and cool on the skin and get weird pulsing or crawling sensations, pressure but no pain. Anyone have same problem due to nerve block? Is there hope I'll get my hand back? I really am scared out of my wits.

Hi there, sorry to hear of your experience. I'm an adult with a tbpi who usually posts on the other message board. I'm not sure whether you're worried that the nerve block itself has caused the problem, or whether the surgery was responsible, either way, the EMG should help with a diagnosis. The crawly feeling under your skin is called formication, and it's generally regarded as a good sign of reinnervation, as is the fact that you can already feel hot and cold. It's great that you are getting help for this so soon. I've cut and pasted your question on the message board for Traumatic bpi, because that's where most of the adults here post and read, others may have valuable input for you. Please let us know what happens after the EMG, and how you get on, and don't worry too much....i know it's very frightening to go through this, but there are people here who can support you and you are getting the right help. Take care and good luck!! :0)
