Picture of new brace.

Post by Chris88 »

Here are some pictures of a brace that was made for me by a local orthotist.

It has a ratchet style adjustment at the elbow. Each "click" is 15 degrees. I was able to get it to "click" for the first time last week :-)

Hello Chris:

Hope that the brace works for you. If a "click" at 15 degrees means progress keep it up!! On to 30!!

Chris,

Wow, that is quite the gadget. If you went up 15 that's great. Keep it up and like John says move up to 30.

Is it to stretch the arm to straigthen it more? Let us know how it is working for you.

Keep up the great work!!

Hey Rachel and John,

I just got back from a deer hunting trip. So hadn’t checked the boards for a while.

Yes, the brace is designed to straighten my arm. As you may know, conractures are caused by one muscle group overpowering another. In my case the biceps are stronger than the triceps. So the biceps tendon has contracted and gotten very tight.

The Dr. said it would take a while to get any positive results. But 15 degrees is a start!

Chris, did you get a deer? I ended up not being able to go this year but I wanted to.

Your new brace looks like it will help a lot! And yes, it does take a considerable amount of time especially for the last few degrees. I have been working on my last 8 degrees for over a year with a surgical interruption though. I am getting ever so close to straight! Keep wearing it and you will get there.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Amy,

Did't get a deer on this trip, but was lucky enough to take one on another hunt this season. I uploaded some of my hunting pictures to the photo bucket.
