Special clothing needs after triangle tilt surgery?

My daughter is having the triangle tilt surgery with Dr. Nath in December. The surgery is for her left shoulder. I was wondering if there were any special clothing adjustments that had to be made to accommodate the splint that has to be worn after the surgery. Thank you for any suggestions/advice.

I just asked someone the same question to someone yesterday as my son's surgery is in February. Suggestions given to me were using shirts in larger sizes. I bought quick a few button up shirts thinking that would help but I think the arm is kept close to the body so it would be hard. Also suggested was cutting up the side of the shirt and attaching velcro. Please post what works best after you're home trial! I would greatly appreciate it!
Also- when we were in Texas last time most of the kids that had tri. tilt were wearing larger white t-shirts with a pair of pj bottoms.

Hi! Check out this previous thread to see if there is any helpful info there (I posted a link in that thread with pics of my son's shirts after his TT)

Thank you for the reply. My daughter's surgery is on the 13th, and we'll return home the 15th. I will let you know what works best for us. I did buy Paige a heavy sweater poncho from Gymboree, and I'm hoping that will work with her brace. She loves all her pretty clothes, so I'm sure she won't be thrilled wearing oversized clothes or cut up clothes with velcro. I'll just add a few sequins and hopefully that will pacify her for the next 6 weeks.

The pictures were very helpful...thank you. I didn't realize the brace was so big. Looks like I'll be doing some shopping for some shirts that I can cut up. I hope your son is doing well from the surgery. Do you think it was successful?

Paige's mom,
I would call Paige's doctor and see what they plan on doing for splinting. I know some one recently has no splint after a surgery so things might be changing. Call and ask what splint Paige will be in and that should help with cloathes.
Good luck!

Vallen had her TT over summer, but I bought a bunch of tank tops then we went to a craft store and she picked out coordinating ribbon, and patches. I Ironed on patches, like cherries, then cut the side of her shirt and attached cherry ribbon at the top, middle and bottom to tie it closed. Not only did the shirts work GREAT over the splint, but she still felt like she could wear "cute" clothes while in her splint for so long. I also did a t-shirt that all the family signed before surgery. Good luck to you, and to answer another question you had, I personally think the surgery was HUGE success!

As for the clothing after the Triangle Tilt, I had a friend of mine who knows how to sew fix up some shirts for Paige. Paige normally wears a 5/6, but I bought some shirts that are 10/12 and somewhat stretchy. My friend cut up the left side of the shirt, and then sewed ribbon in about 5 or 6 places on either side of the opening. The shirts fit right over Paige's head, and then I tie the left side closed over her brace. This has worked well, although at times the ties come untied. Allow some extra time for getting dressed! Also, I have learned to wash the shirts in a laundry bag because the ribbon has gotten caught on other articles of clothing in the wash, and the ribbons come out shredded. We decided the tie method would be better than using snapping tape or velcro. We're 3 weeks down, and only 3 more weeks to go. I think I'm more anxious for the brace to come off than Paige is.

Hello,
How did the surgery go? was it her first? My daughter is 13 months old and we are considering the TT. Did it really fix the external rotation? I hope it was a succes.
Thank you
