This is from T.R.Ramesh. (My age 33) I had an injury of TRAUMATIC BRACHIAL PLEXUS PALSY - GLOBAL ROOT AVULSION (RIGHT). (C5, C6, C8 and T1) Because of the above injury, I was undergone for prime surgery at Apollo hospital in Chennai (India) on Feb -2006. They observed and done the \"Exploration and nerve transfer Right Brachial Plexus Spinal accessory to Suprascapular, Intercostal to Musculocutanes and Contra lateral C7 to Median nerve via Vascularised Ulnar nerve Graft\".

If any bodies faced this type of problems, please share and give your suggestion of my question.

Present NCS/EMG/MRI reports saying that there is no improvement in my hand. Which has did after 17 months of Prime surgery. As of now, I did not get the any little movements.
1) Any one here recovered fully? How long period required for recovery. And after the recovery we can able to do the atleast day-to-day works.

2)At this present condition, whether my hand will be recoverable/manageable/repairable. If any alternative way.

3) After 17 months of prime surgery, why there is no improvements in my hand. If it is any wrongs of treatment/surgery.

4)At this present condition, my doctor wants to do the muscle/Tenant transfer. Whether the muscle/tendons transfer will help to get the hand movement of elbow and fingers.

5) After prime surgery how many months/year required for some little movements......

6) Before movements if any syntoms we will get in hand?

Hey,

It sounds like you have a bunch of stuff going on to aid in your recovery. Most treatments that involve nerves take long periods to see improvements, but with increasing success. Sometimes it just doesn't happen.
My wife Carrie had a lat-bicep muscle transfer that didn't work, but it was a possibility. It's worked for many others. Patience is required dealing with these injuries, but diligence with physical therapy and hope helps.

Thanks for your reply. Now your wife can able to moves the hand and fingers. If so how much level she can able to do her day to day work. For that how long she has spent and what are the treatment/surgery/Physio are done.

I have the same avosions i had surgery done in march of 07 the mayo docs told me recovery could be 3years or more.they did my hand at the same time as the rest of surgery and told me i would have little movment with the hand. i only have a very small shoulder movment right now with no gravity basically in water they said my hand will cup it self in time to pull on door or bag of gocherys they told me to be 3-5 years. dose the pain ever go away i wonder good luck God bless

Carrie's muscle transfer was not successful. She has no movement below her shoulder except for a little tricep, and she's ok with that. Technology is advancing so very quickly in every field so we're hoping for new stuff concerning TBPI's someday.

Ramesh, My daughter had similar surgery as you except she wasn't able to have the c7 contra-lateral procedure due to an anomoly. She had nerve and muscle transfers in May of 2006. She has some hand/finger movement that is getting stronger and stronger as time goes by along with good bicep and tricep strength. She just had a wrist fusion and thumb fusion last Wednesday to put things in proper position so she will be able to grasp an object after they heal. Hope all goes well for you and remember that it takes a long time for movement to come. Be patient. Sue
