I began using the Myotrac sEmg (surface EMG) I used it on my infraspinatus muscle. It's there now I have to learn how to use it.

I get so obsessed that I wake myself up doing ROM in my sleep.
I slept good last night and I used it for twenty minutes.
My arm is NOT tired today.
No great movement yet but I found the infraspinatus!
It does nothing when it comes to moving my arm.
Well lazy muscle is about to wake up!
It will be long and slow but it's worth it.
I just thought they were paralyzed all these years and could do nothing. Now let's see if they can do anything.

I am so excited by what you and others are gaining from the machine. I am looking into having Dustin give it a try. Do you think renting it for a month is worthwhile, or do you use it longer so that you would suggest just purchasing it right away?

I can't really give you and answer on that one.
Dustin has a tbpi correct? I purchased my own for two reasons. My muscles have never been used properly and the doctors assumed they were unable to function at all.

I am excited and have been able to gain new movements but they are slight right now because my muscles are co contracting. My deltoid thinks it has to do the work of the infraspinatus etc...

I would look into it and see which is the most practical for you. It is certainly worth a try for anyone because each injury is really so different.

If you lived near by I'd let you try mine first....

Sorry Kath, I didn't phrase the question well. I guess what I am asking is: with you do you find that a one month rental would be enough or do you use it enough to justify the purchase? It seemed when Kate spoke about it she said you may not need it for a long time. I know your injury is different from Dustin (yup, TBPI). But, they did think you had lost some muscle and wouldn't get it back(drs right?). We do know that Dustin has no avulsions and Open EMG showed signal in all areas. So, I do know there is no guarantee but being a mother I hate to pass-up opportunity. I also don't want to rent it for a month or two just to find that now I have $110 into it I may as well have purchased it. The other thing I thought is if Dustin gets "done" using it, I could then find a way to let others on the board use it that may not have the means to purchase their own.

Does the company offer you the option to "TRY IT" = "RENT IT" and then apply it to a purchase later. I used this for a piece of medical equiptment once and they gave me 100% of what I paid to rent the machine and sent me a new one when I returned the old one !!1

woowhooo!! finally found one in our area. Just have to have the dr call in a scrip. They are even in our ins plan. So, will start by trying it there. She also mentioned that they can order me one to rent through them and that way my ins should pay the rental fee like with his old e-stim. Persistance pays,

I MOST definitely think it is worth a try on Dustin!
I will need it longer because my muscles have not been used and now need lots of repetitions because they never functioned in a normal way.
I guess that Dustin had a brain connection to his arm and it's just a little lost and he may react faster.

I thought there was one place that rented for $55 I could be wrong.

I am making progress.
I just left the chiropractor and I emailed him about the Myotrac. I had to be adjusted after Camp,travel and just life to keep me from getting myself in to trouble with my back and neck. I told him I had new PARTY TRICKS because I used the Myotrac. When I demonstrated he was amazed that my shoulders appeared straighter and my arm up was huge. After my adjustment (no cracking it is done with a clicker) he sat with me and put electrodes on my infraspinatus, deltoids and biceps. He then showed me what I should be doing to get some strength...
That was really nice of him and he was so interested and thought it was a great idea. He got it immediately... my brain needed a forward address to my muscles because my brain lost the address. It does not get much simpler than that. I hope it will work for Dustin. If I can find something it will need a great deal of work to get some strength but the young the child the faster, I think, they will get their muscles to function if they are innervated.
I am so excited with the tiniest new movement.
Check to see if you can try before you buy and maybe insurance will cover the cost for you.
I know that it would not for me...
