finally got into the Mayo clinic, and need advice.

Post by Drake's Mom »

I called the mayo clinic to see if they were going to be able to get Drake in, and they said they have Drake down for an appointment October 31st!!! But dummie me, i forgot who he said it was with! I know it is a woman though. This is just for a second opinion, Drake has had no surgeries and September 30 will be a year. He still has very limited movements and since all five nerves were damaged, he has almost no muscles in his right arm, so really if in the future if he needs a muscle or tendon transfer i want the mayo clinic to do it so this is why we are going to visit. Well my question is where is the best place to stay, i am coming from Texas and i have no clue about Minn.! I want to start trying to book our trip so hopefully it will be a little cheaper. Does anyone have any advice for me???

Thanks

They should send you a detailed schedule of times, appts and such. We usually have ours about 1 month prior to our appts. We have stayed at the Kahler Inn and Suites. It is very convenient as it is right accross the street and is accessable by an underground hallway known as the "subway". This was important when we first went as Dustin couldn't have gotten on the shuttles. It includes pool, excersize room (incase you have time), free breakfast and parking. I understand it is a bit more reasonable than some of the others. We had a double suite it ran about $100.00 per night. There are other places too. When you receive your schedule there will be a list of Hotels. Most have a free shuttle that runs between them and the Mayo.

Hi,
Our first visit to the mayo, we stayed at one of the holiday inn's. For her primary surgery we stayed at the Ronald Mcdonald house. It's easy to find (close to the mayo) and even though we were at St. Mary's the entire time with our daughter, we still had a room @ Ronald Mcdonald house just to go and take a shower and have a few minutes away from the hospital. They were fantastic there. They require a small fee (if a family was able to pay) everyday and the facility is clean and friendly.
Good luck.
