Impromtu Visit to NJ Aquarium in Camden Wednesday am....

Post by francine »

There is a mom with a 4 month old infant who was just told by an orthopedic surgeon that there is nothing that can be done to help her gain any function. Needless to say, this family is devastated. So Maia and I are going to meet them at the NJ Aquarium in Camden - she wanted to see Maia and gain some hope.

If anybody out there wants to trek to Camden tomorrow morning - it'll be kewl. I think another mom will be coming too and I sent some emails out.

We are meeting at the front door at 11:30 am. We are also bringing lunch bags and will first have lunch with the kids and then do the fishies.

If there's anyone interested in joining this impromptu bpi event give me a call at 215 - 643-5913 before 10:30 am....or just show up!

Francine,

I know it is too late before you meet her, but please let her know that Kelsey's ortho surgeon told us that there was nothing that could be done to improve function, then we met with Dr. Nath, and he had hope. The ortho we had really focused on the muscular aspect only, and did not consider what could be done with the nerves. Kelsey now can raise her arm over her head and make snow angels. We were devastated after we met with that surgeon. I totally know how she feels. Your heart sinks to your feet. I feel for her!

We were told similar things ,too. But like Michaela I'm stubborn and wouldn't accept it. Hope all goes well and give her a big hug for me!! LeeAnne

The visit to the aquarium went really well. I met Amy and her two children and also met Nicole and her two children - another new mom who just found us here.

Amy's baby looks so much like Maia did when she was that age it was incredible and I was able to show her video of Maia at 4 months so that she could see that what her baby has now is EXACTLY what Maia had at 4 months - it was uncanny.

Maia got to show off her new range and basically just played like any other kid would run through the halls there. I think we gave her a lot of hope. I hope so at least.

Unfortunately she does not have a computer... wish she did and could talk to all of us. But for now the crying has settled down just a little bit.

And I'm so glad that Nicole - who read about the trip on here - called just an hour before and met us!! Her four year old Aaron has a bpi. Well I think that Maia may have a new boyfriend?? LOL
