Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: My name is Bridget, my son Brayden has a LOBPI. He was born 5-14-07 and weighted 11lbs 3ozs and was 22inches long and got stuck on my pelvis coming out. All 5 nerves were involved 2 ruptured and 3 avulsed, and also had Horner's Syndrome. He had primary surgery in St. Louis with Dr. Parks when he was 3 months old. He used synthetic materials to fuse the nerves together, because the nerves in his calves were not long enough. Brayden currently does aqua therapy, PT, OT and speech therapy. He has little movement in his arm and hand, but that does not stop him from having fun and being a normal boy!!!

I was wondering if anyone here has dealt with the BPI center in St.Louis at the children's hospital. My son is having a MRI and surgery there next month and I would like to here from anyone that has been there. The droctor we are seeing is Dr. Parks.

My daughter had her primary nerve graft there with Dr. Park when she was 8 months old. He is an excellent doctor and his staff is wonderful. The Children's Hospital was a great experience and the nurses were all great. (Can you tell I have nothing bad to say about it!!)
I hope it all goes well for you and your son. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Maggie had primary with Dr Park too when she was 10 months. It was a great expeirence for what it was and her scar is very nice and neat.

The only thing I havent liked is the lets wait till next year for the last four years. I think she should have had other surgeries by now. But other then that I loved St Louis Childrens Hospital and Dr Park.

That makes me feel a little better knowing people have had good experiences with Dr. Parks and staff. I am still bothered by the thought that my son has to have this surgery and at such a young age. He will be 3 months old two days before surgery. He has surgery on August 16th, and although he has no ideal what he is going to be going through, I am very scared for him, sometimes it makes sick, but I know this is the best thing for him to get some use in his arm.
