small but good news to share

Last night while laying in bed I thought I was extending my arm against gravity, but that's tricep, I haven't had any for a year(accident anniversary 6/21/6)
So today in therapy I told my OT about it & asked him to check.
Yep, we've got tricep!
It is contracting, now to pray for a stronger signal & rebuild weak muscle.

Great news! My husband is in a similar situation. His accident was 6-05. After 2 surgeries in 1-06 my husband has just started seeing movement in his bicep and tricep w/in the last month. Do you have any news on the success of muscle recovery after months if not years of no use? Neither the neurosurgeon nor the PT will say if there is much chance of the muscle returning.

Thanks Sue.
As for the muscle recovery PT & Dr. don't like to commit to one way or the other, the anything is possible routine, but realisticly I have had one OT tell me I'll never have a "ripped" bicep/tricep again but if you get to shoe away a skeedo won't you be happy. So I guess function is the goal but there's always hope for strength.

I worked with a different OT yesterday, 2nd opinion, he worked the tricep untill exhaustion then said he ALSO felt "trace bicep" , now I don't see that yet but I'm keepin the faith.
Now just to clarify, the tricep nerve wasnot worked on in my surgery 1/4/7, the bicep got the graft from my left leg, so it's a little of both - Hope either way :)

Isn't that the truth Kaz, they don't want to say one way or another. I will come into PT and ask John the therapist, 'Hey what if it's this that is causing my pain attacks?' And he just chuckled last time. I don't know if he was smiling or what because I was already laying on the table and he was behind me, but I suspect he was. :)

This week I go see a Neurological pain doctor here in town. I found him by asking my attorney's office who they see used most by their clients. I've done a search on the web and found at least one very favorable remark about him being one of the best in our area. So I am hopeful he'll be able to help figure out why I have these pain episodes.
