I had my neurologist follow up from my EMG last week. It showed botht he carpel tunnel and the ulnar nerve problems increasing in the right side and the presance of carpel tunnel and ulnar nerve damage in the left though the cts isn't as progressed as the right side. I forgot to ask him if the ulnar on the left side was new and probably a result of my car accident.
He told me we have to do something about the right since it's all I have pretty much so he gave me two options. Steroid shots which would only be a temporary fix or surgery to release the carpel tunnel and move the ulnar nerve. This makes me very nervious. what if the screw up the surgery and I'm stuck with two bad arms (bed they'd give me my ssd then huh. *smirk*) So I see a neuro surgeon next week for a consult.
I asked him about the left side and he said he wont' touch it and wont' let anyone around here touch it either because he knows noone who has the knowledge to do anything and is afraid even a routine surgery like the ct release could get screwed up and cause more damage.
I told him about my trying to get dr. nath to look at my reports and send me a treatment plan and asked him if Dr. Nath confered with him about surgeries would he do them. he said the CT release and Ulnar...probably but nothing more.
I also called my insurance and they said if I can get my pcp or my neuro to write some kind of letter saying that there are no specialists in the plan that they would probably cover me to see Dr. Nath. Here's hoping.
So I keep pushing on. I'm surprised I got this far.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

You keep pushing...
I am glad that you are FINALLY making some progress with the doctors and they recognize they cannot help you.
Let's hope the doctor can write a letter and you can finally get some real bpi help.

Re: making progress with drs.
I'm wondering if there are any BPI specialists who do carpal tunnel releases. So maybe if a BPi doc says its ok you could still do your affected side as well(if you want)

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Becky...the only specialist near us is Dr. Addelson in Pittsburg. I don't know if he does carpel releases or not.
Now and dont' get your hopes up. I'm not actually "seeing" any specialists. Dr. Nath has just agreed that since there haven't been and won't be any clinics near me in the near future, that he would look over my medical records and veiw a video I send with my rom and email me a treatment plan. Granted if surgery is suggested then I'd have to go to houston for that. As much as Analisa, from his office, assured me he'd be able to help I'm rather hesitant that anyting will be able to be done.
But small steps forward are better than any backward.

Re: making progress with drs.
I am glad that you are finally getting somewhere. When I had my surgery on my non-bpi arm they had to do the IVs in the foot. This is something to let the anesthesialogist know.

Oh my Judy...I hadn't even thought of that. Geez. Now I'm really going to be nervous.
