Hey guys,
We are back from Shriner's. It was a rough trip. Kayla got thrush the day before we left and I noticed her voice going away on the plane ride up there. We ended up catching a flight back to Orlando and driving back to Pensacola to get her to her home. Her voice was completely gone and she couldn't even cry. Overall, the visit was hopeful. Dr. Kozin and staff were awesome. He narrowed her injury down to C5 and C6 and he said we should wait another 2 to 3 months before having the primary surgery. The only thing Kayla lacks is supination and complete bicep. I am trying to stay positive but I am trying to accept the possibility of surgery. Kayla cooperated with the OT to my surprise so we didn't have to come back the next day when she was more rested. He also looked at her diaphragm because she spits up so much and it looked normal. He said that if surgery is necessary he is almost positive both nerves are not completely severed with as much movement as she has so her chances of recovery are very good.

Re: Back from Shriner's
That's a really positive report. I'm sorry to hear about her being sick.
Dr. Kozin and his staff are wonderful, my child screams from the time we walk in the door until the minute that we leave so they have to be awesome to put up with him.
Surgery isn't the worst thing, I have been very glad that Carson had surgery.
Good Luck-
Jamie

It sounds like the overall experience and news were both good. Wonderful. Too bad your little one isn't feeling too well right now though. That's never fun. I hope she's feeling better soon. Dr. Kozin and his staff are a great asset to your daughter's care. I'm glad the experience was a good one.
