Hello,
I'm new to this site. Despirately seeking answers. I'm getting the run around. Last July I underwent an eleven hour operation ( bilateral mastectomy with immediate DIEP reconstruction ). I woke up with severe hand and finger pain ( except pinky) of both hands. Couldn't even touch a kleenex. When I tried to extend my arms it felt like electrocution. aw my surgeon , who had no idea what happened. She sent me to a hand therapist who said I had neuropraxia. Before I could see a neurologist ( who was backed up three months ) I developed MRSA wpound infection and ended up back in the hospital and then in a nursing home
( I couldn't take care of myself due to the hand pain) for over a month. Everyone ( medical) said it would resolve in a few weeks, then a few months...it's now 10 months later and it is very painful to use a keyboard or mouse. I have to use paper plates because dishes are heavy. My finger tips and are painful , sometimes swollen and my hands go numb when raised above elbow level. The neurologist did an emg last Oct. and said I had carpel tunnel in both wrists. He sent me to a neurosurgeon who did a brachial plexus mri which didn't show anything and he wanted to schedule me to have carpel tunnel surgery. My hand therapist recommended I see a hand surgeon. He treated me for bilateral trigger finger ( which developed within the last two months) by giving me four cortisone shots and he sent me to see a spine surgeon, who told me that my cervical MRi shows two neck protrusions which are pressing on the spinal chord, and he suggests that neck surgery might help if this doesn't resolve and I see him again in three months.
All I want is for the pain to stop.
I never had carpel tunnel before this surgery. Has anyone heard of bracial plexus neuropraxia lasting this long after surgery?

Kateeherna,

I regret to say, who are suffered from TBPI, in that 98.9% people facing and living with pain including me. You try to divert the mind in some way. This will help to enjoy the pain. Hope you will recover soon.

I dont think it sounds like a typical bpi at all, surely it would have shown up in your brachial xray/scan then, have they done emg tests, if they show up as normal then surely its a great sign for recovery.
