Masen, a question for anyone
Masen, a question for anyone
Hello, My question is this Masen is four and just had primary surgery on jan. 18, 2007 at Mayo, they say it could be up to one year before we see anything but on one occasion he said his shoulder hurt and then today he said his sleepy fingers hurt, do you think even though it is only been three months, that he the connections could be happening? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks TK.
Re: Masen, a question for anyone
With nerve injuries, ANYTHING is possible. From my various readings and interactions with doctors(name neurosurgeons)/other specialists it seems no dates can be put down and a rule of thumb is anything can happen and usually between 2 months and 2 years is when most results usually happen (but that's for a general thing in my case).
Just looking up primary surgery, this page was found. If you don't mind the semi graphic pictures (not much really but some people may get offended to them? Just a couple pictures of the plexus network during surgery). The link is http://www.drnathbrachialplexus.com/sur ... /index.php
I really can't give any answers (with solid background sorry, just from my experience which was a BPI without avulsion) and just stating what was said to me and re-confirmed from my research in the past 13 months since my accident. Also if you want to do further reading and not sure how to use google, try this: http://tinyurl.com/2ahnow
Hope I can be of help, it's 6am and I just woke up (got to sleep at 2am) so I'm still waking up.. Just trying to help when I can

Re: Masen, a question for anyone
Ellen B had posted some time ago that after her son had the surgeries it was about 6 mos. before they saw movement. John was a teen at the time. Maybe being younger with less length of arm things move a little faster? Seems every time Dustin says he has a new pain or it feels like something is waking up we notice an improvement. Hopefully this will be the case with Masen.
It's so hard to predict as each one is so different. I think I have read that the feeling does come first.
Best of luck glad to hear he is coming along.
